Rec Path Grooming Update
Stowe Parks & Recreation| ADAPTIVE Skiers |

Thank you for your interest in participating in the Stowe Tour de Snow! We are so excited about the addition of adaptive athletes this year. In an effort to gather information, we have joined hands with NENSA Adaptive, Northeast Disabled Athletic Association (NDAA), the Friends of Stowe Adaptive and the Kelly Brush Foundation. The experience has been incredible and we are happy to report that all we’ve been planning diligently to provide a great event open to adaptive skiers with physical impairments. If you are an adaptive skier, please note that you need to let us know that you are coming AND fill in and return the athlete form by January 4th (make sure to include an email address.) We have limited the spaces to 20 adaptive participants for this year. We have 10 sit skis and other adaptive equipment available and we’ll gladly outfit you with the gear most appropriate for your personal type and ability level. Eileen Carey, Adaptive Program's Director of NENSA will be on hand with gear and staff. Patrick Standen of the NDAA will also be at the Tour, skiing and having some fun on his own Nordic sit ski. Feel free to invite friends and family! The Stowe Recreation Path is fairly flat and we believe will lend itself perfectly to adaptive Nordic skiers. The path will be firmly groomed, and tracked. Dress for the weather, Nordic skiing is an endurance sport and we recommend wearing lots of layers. We will supply hand and toe warmers. In the event that the snow conditions are not ideal for sit skiers, or that the temperature are below -5 degrees Fahrenheit (-20 Celsius) the event will be canceled and you will be contacted in due time. Most of the activities offered along the course can be adapted. You are not compelled to participate in any of them but we sure welcome you to try them all. This event is a good opportunity to try new things! At the end of the day, a chinese raffle and village celebrations will be held INSIDE on the third floor of the Akeley Memorial Building downtown Stowe at 2 p.m. This building is fully accessible and has an elevator. Use the entrance located at the back of the building to access the elevator. Please allow sufficient time if you wish to attend. Cookies and cider will be served by our friends at Coldwell Carlson Real Estate. Make sure to drop by their office on Main Street. Free hot cocoa will be poured at Laughing Moon Chocolate also on Main Street. If you have time and wish to have lunch in town, try Frida's Taqueria and Grill right across from the Akeley Building on Main Street. |
